Condition Report: Overall Condition; See description.
Sharing with you a nice early edo period pattipan style dish. Painted with Roosters/cockerels which seems to be engaged in a fight. Above them is a butterfly in flight and two small ones on the left and right. The whole scene is situated in a floral garden/landscape scene. Overglaze enamels.
The motif of cockerels was popular on ko-akae and kosometsuke, this dish is decorated in Chinese style in overglaze red, green, yellow and aubergine (I have added a picture of of chinese dish with the same scene).
C
hecked shibata, found similar colored piece, check also photos.
Size; 1 small chip and 2 firing flaws (1 too foot and 1 too rim) 198x128x25mm
Period; Circa 1690-1730 (probably early 18th, but open to opinions)
