An Imari Coffee Pot and Cover
Edo period (late 17th century)
Of typical form, moulded and decorated in iron-red, green, aubergine and black enamels and gilt on underglaze blue with a party of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune, Shichifukujin, amongst blooming flowers, including Daikoku seated on two rice bales and holding his mallet, Ebisu and Hotei with his bag, the lower body with stylised foliage and a flowerhead to the opening for a metal tap, raised on three scroll feet and applied with a handle, all below the bulbous neck with foliate panels enclosing shippo motifs surrounded by rabbits amongst waves, the domed cover with two dragons surmounted by a knop finial
