Very nice ca 1790 Qianlong period. Inscription:  William Brown & Eleanor Newcastle

This refers to the Ship Eleanor and the owner/captain William Brown

The Ship Eleanor was build in South Shields near Newcastle in 1789 by a shipbuilder named William Gilley. His shipyard produced 9 ships between 1787 and 1791. The on ship i have been able to find the details of  was 250 ton Brig / Brigantine of 30 meters. Lloyds Records are showing that the Eleanor entered service in 1790. The shipbuilder William Gilley went on te become a shipbuilder in Canada in 1812. It would be very interesting to find out more about the Eleanor and William Brown. Archives in  the UK must give more answers.
