Condition Report: see description.
Barrel-shaped teapot on a footring, with a C-shaped handle and a curved spout, the flat cover with a knob. The base is glazed. Decorated in underglaze blue and wucai enamels. The two sides with large panels depicting a landscape with kylin/foo lion.
Teapots of this shape appear in the export assortments of around 1640, when drinking tea became fashionable in European communities in Asia, for example, among Dutch employees in Batavia. Underglaze-blue examples of this barrel-shaped type were found in the Hatcher wreck, which sank in around 1645 (ref.). The bright enamels, including a strong, dark green, are typical of the Shunzhi period.
Condition report:
general ware to the piece, inside rim lid with firing flaw and both the spout and handle parts where it is attached have discoloring. Honestly not sure if this is how it should be or restored. Spout also with filled chip and upper rim put with minimal frits. Size: 13CM high
