Sharing with you this nicely decorated and large Ming kraak bowl.
On this Kraak bowl from the Wanli period (late Ming dynasty), you can see a number of characteristic decorative elements:
Inside decoration

In the central medallion:
A grasshopper or cricket sits among foliage and flowers, with a butterfly hovering nearby. This kind of insect-and-flower motif symbolizes vitality, harmony with nature, and the seasons of summer and autumn. Crickets were also admired in Chinese culture for their singing, representing joy and abundance. -
Around the medallion, the inner wall is divided into panels:
Each panel contains alternating motifs such as flower sprays, fruits and bamboo stalks.
Outside decoration

The outer surface of the bowl is also divided into vertical panels:

Some show flowering plants such as peonies (wealth and honor) and chrysanthemums (autumn and longevity).

Others depict pomegranates, a symbol of fertility and many descendants.

There are also lotus flowers (purity and rebirth) and bamboo (resilience, uprightness).
