Condition Report: 1 chip, 1 line and some frits to rim. Size 281x34mm DiameterxHeight

Large dish on footrim. Decorated in enamel colours with two Chinese women in a garden scene. Around the border three sprays of flowers. It depicts the luxurious lifestyle of the wealthy and fortunate out in the garden occupying themselves with things rich people do: playing music, drinking tea, reading, etc.

This magnificent dish is an early example of the application of pink enamel, whose use developed during the Yongzheng period. The other enamel colours employed have been applied in many gradations with great sophistication.

Yongzheng period, 18th century, Famille Rose.
