Chinese Kangxi Blue & White Porcelain Dish with Mandala flower mark.
This fine dish was made around 1680 at the Jingdezhen kilns, during the Kangxi reign (1662 – 1722) of the Qing Dynasty. It is decorated in underglaze blue of good colour. The decoration to the centre panel features a grasshopper in a landscape scene surrounded by flower blossoms. Surrounding this are geometric designs. The border with flowers and geometric designs. To the underside are floral scrolls and an unusual mark with a mandala flower within double rings.
Note: whilst decorated in the “kraak” style of the mid 17th century, dishes such as this dating to the late 17th century are not actually true “kraak” wares. A full explanation is given in the fine book “Kraak Porcelain” by Maura Rinaldi, a book we highly recommend.
