Beautiful and very charming 18th century Chinese porcelain teapot and cover, dating to the Qianlong period (1736–1795).
The teapot is finely decorated in black and gilt enamels, showing an elegant Chinese bird-and-flower decoration.
On both sides of the teapot a small bird is depicted perched upon a flowering branch, surrounded by delicately painted flowers, buds and foliage. Further small bird and insect are shown in flight around the composition, giving the decoration a particularly lively character. The small scale and fine linear painting of the birds and flowers are especially attractive.
