Antique 17th/18th C Chinese Porcelain Bowl / Dish Qilin Cobalt Landscape
有货
Condition Report: Rimfritting, Chip and 2 hairlines. Size 17.8cm
Here we have a very interesting late 17th or 18th-century Chinese blue-and-white bowl. On the base is a shop mark, but what makes the bowl particularly interesting is the additional owner’s mark. Such personal marks could be used to identify the owner when bowls were lent out or used communally, for example during village celebrations and other gatherings.
This combination of a shop mark and an individual owner’s mark gives the bowl a wonderful social history and makes it a particularly unusual example. A closely comparable bowl is illustrated in a publication of The Kyushu Ceramic Museum, Saga Prefecture, where this fascinating practice of marking porcelain can also be seen.
