Condition Report: Crackled all over, restored section to the rim, 1 firing flaw and 1 hairline to the rim. Size: 32.5x7CM DiameterxHeight approx.

Interesting charger that was not fired correctly in the kiln.

On this large plate, which stylistically fits into the Ming dynasty (likely Hongzhi or Zhengde period, late 15th – early 16th century), you can see the following decorative elements:

Front (interior decoration):

• Central medallion:
  A floral composition featuring lotus flowers and waves. The lotus often symbolizes purity and spiritual enlightenment in Chinese art.

• Border near the rim:
  Around the central medallion is a wide band filled with dense scrolling lotus, waves and water plants. The painter has carefully interwoven flowers, leaves, waves and tendrils in a continuous pattern.

Back (exterior decoration):

• Floral scrolls:
  The outside is covered with continuous scrolling floral motifs.

• Foot ring:
  The base is unglazed with a smooth, slightly recessed foot. The inner base is plain and unmarked, which is common for utilitarian wares of this period.
