Antique Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Plate – Wanli – Jiajing Period, Ming Dynasty (1522–1566)

A fine and rare example of Ming dynasty blue-and-white porcelain Landscape from the Jiajing or early Wanli period, featuring elegant underglaze cobalt decoration.

The central medallion depicts a landscape with travelling scholar and attendant. Its lively and well-balanced, with strong outlines and controlled cobalt tones typical of mid-Ming production.

The porcelain body is thinly potted with, consistent with quality wares of the period.

This is a top example of this classic type. Similar pieces are published in several important collections, including the historic porcelain collection at the Santos Palace in Lisbon.
