A beautiful and very finely decorated 18th century Chinese porcelain pattipan, dating to the Qianlong period (1736–1795).

The pattipan is decorated in encre de Chine / grisaille with a wonderfully detailed Chinese river and mountain landscape. This is a particularly attractive and finely painted example, with much more detail than is often seen on pieces of this type.

The scene shows an extensive mountainous landscape with a river running through it, surrounded by rocky banks, trees, houses and pavilions. Several small figures can be seen throughout the landscape, together with boats on the water. Particularly nice is the arched passage or bridge on the right, surmounted by a small pavilion, while further houses and buildings are positioned directly along the riverbanks.

The painter has created a remarkable amount of depth.
