A large Chinese blue and white porcelain charger dating to the Kangxi period (1662–1722), Qing dynasty.
The centre is finely painted in underglaze cobalt blue with flowering plants growing beside pierced ornamental rocks. Large peony blooms dominate the composition, accompanied by smaller flowers, curling leaves and slender branching stems.
A geometric diaper band surrounds the central scene, interrupted by four elongated cartouches containing floral sprigs. The broad rim is decorated with alternating peony blossoms and bunches of grapes with curling tendrils, enclosed by a narrow patterned border and a brown-dressed edge.
The reverse carries freely painted trailing stems with small groups of leaves.
