Still one of my favourite Kangxi designs. We had a few in the past but very happy to found another one. Yes it had a bit of a rough live but for us it also adds up to the nice history of this piece.
The central scene shows two figures, one appears to be a scholar or dignitary, seated on a rocky platform or garden terrace. He is dressed in traditional robes. The second figure, a servant or attendant, is presenting a large vase, possibly filled with lotus or peony flowers. This could symbolize peace, prosperity, or scholarly virtue.
Both mythical creatures above depicted in the upper central area are phoenixes, or more specifically fenghuang — the elegant, composite mythical birds of Chinese tradition.
The wall and rim with geometric design and different kind of flowers.
Marked with a sacred mushroom at the base.
