Up for auction this week is a beautiful Chinese blue and white porcelain plate dating to the Kangxi period, early 18th century, Qing dynasty.
The centre is painted in underglaze cobalt blue with a decorative vase holding flowering branches, set beside tall bamboo, ornamental rocks and large flowering plants. Fine outlines and shaded blue washes bring detail and depth to the composition.
A geometric diaper border with floral reserves surrounds the central scene. The broad rim is decorated with flowering sprays and a narrow patterned outer band, finished with a brown-dressed edge.
The reverse features three floral sprays.
