Condition Report:
Sharing with you this fantastic Chinese porcelain dish. Tianqi transitional period.
This piece belongs to the Kosometsuke (Ko-sometsuke) group, produced in Jingdezhen specifically for the Japanese tea ceremony market.
Decorated with a scene of a scholar and his young attendant in a tranquil landscape. Across the lake, a small hut can be seen in the distance, adding depth and atmosphere to the composition. It is a very vivid scene and a lovely example of this classic type.
A closely comparable example is illustrated in Chinesische Porzellane des 17. Jahrhunderts für Japan: Sammlung Georg Weishaupt, Berlin by Herbert Butz and Kawahara Masahiko (Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst, Berlin, 1996).
