This is a finely painted Kangxi period (1662–1722) blue and white porcelain dish, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with intricate floral motifs. In real life it’s even better.

• Front (interior decoration):
  The central medallion features a dense composition of flowering peonies, chrysanthemums, and scrolling foliage, skillfully arranged in harmonious balance. The flowers are depicted in multiple stages of bloom, symbolizing prosperity and renewal. Surrounding the central design is a narrow double-line border, encircled by a wider band of stylized floral scrolls around the cavetto. The rim is finished with a band of lotus petal motifs, forming a continuous border.

• Back (exterior decoration):
  The underside is decorated with floral sprays, echoing the interior’s theme of abundance and elegance. At the base, within a double circle, is a square seal mark enclosing a lozenge-shaped motif with swastika painted in underglaze blue.

• Form:
  The dish has gently sloping sides rising from a neatly cut footrim, with a smooth white glaze accentuating the crisp blue decoration.

• Symbolism:
  The abundance of flowers, particularly peonies (wealth and honor) and chrysanthemums (longevity and resilience), reflects auspicious wishes for prosperity, happiness, and long life.
