An Unusual Late Ming/Transitional Blue and White Porcelain shallow Bowl or dish. The whole interior of the bowl is painted with a single scene that extends up the walls of the bowl. The scene is of two scholars in a mountainious landscapw playing Go (or ‘Weiqi‘ in Chinese) in front of a pagode. The exterior is unpainted with a single circle in the base.

Go is a board game of East Asian origin, for two players. It is said to be invented around 2000 BC and is still played in nearly unaltered form. It is played by millions of people in the country of origin, China, the surrounding countries Korea and Japan, and beyond. The word go (that can be pronounced in the Dutch as well as the English way) is the European version of the Japanese name I-Go (Kanji: 囲碁 of 碁). In China the game is called Weiqi (围棋),
