Antique Chinese 16th C Porcelain Ming Jiajing Chilong Dragon ESPIR Collection
In stock
Condition Report: Perfect condition. Size: 13.5x2.5CM DiameterxHeight
A Late Ming and very nicely decorated plate with an underglaze blue decoration of a Chilong, a young dragon.
Most probably Jiajing period. This is one of the best painted examples of this type of dish we have ever seen and comes with a nice provenance. The glaze is excellent and the representation of the chilong is most appealing. Jingdezhen ware.
It was part of the Helen Espir Collection, auctioned at Woolly & Wallis.
Reference: Similar dish with Kui Xing is pictured in: China as inspiration for Japanese porcelain – Kyushu Ceramics Museum. page 74.
