Tianqi Period 17C Chinese Porcelain Ming Dish Landscape BIRDS IN FLIGHT
Out of stock
Condition Report: Some typical rimfritting only. Size: 15.8x2.7CM DiameterxHeight
Sharing with you this fantastic Chinese porcelain dish. Tianqi period, Ming dynasty.
This piece belongs to the Kosometsuke (Ko-sometsuke) group, produced in Jingdezhen specifically for the Japanese tea ceremony market.
The decoration shows several birds in flight, painted in cobalt blue, spaced evenly around the interior. They look like swallows or small birds, each in a different pose—wings spread, diving, or gliding—which gives the dish a sense of movement. Between the birds are floral sprigs—loose, asymmetrical blossoms with curling stems. The brushwork is quick and expressive rather than super refined. There’s a central floral motif in the middle, anchoring the composition. The glaze has a soft, milky tone.
