Antique Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Dish – Tianqi Period, Ming Dynasty (1621–1627)
A superb example of late Ming dynasty blue-and-white porcelain, dating to the Tianqi period. This finely potted dish is decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a lively and expressive composition.
The central scene features a stylized scholar’s rock and pine tree, a classic motif symbolizing endurance, longevity, and refined scholarly taste. The painting is executed in a free, spontaneous manner characteristic of the Tianqi era, reflecting the transition toward more painterly and expressive decoration in late Ming ceramics.
The cavetto is framed by a simple double line, while the rim is adorned with a decorative wave or ruyi-style border interspersed with small floral reserves, adding balance and elegance to the piece.
