Sharing with you this very attractive late Ming Chinese blue and white porcelain dish, dating to the 16th/early 17th century, Swatow or Zhangzhou ware.

The centre is painted in underglaze blue with two cranes in flight facing one another, surrounded by stylised foliage and flowing, cloud-like forms. A very lively decoration, the dish with typical Swatow/Zhangzhou decoration but the painting of higher than usual quality.

The reverse is largely undecorated apart from a simple blue line surrounding the foot. The underside shows the typical kiln adhesion around the footring, an interesting feature of the production and firing of this type of ware.
