Condition Report: Usual ware and small restuck piece to rim with line. Size: 14.5x6.2CM DiameterxHeight
Sharing with you this nice Chinese porcelain Bowl which we attribute to a piece from the Hatcher Junk Shipwreck Cargo, of the late Ming period, circa 1650
The Hatcher Cargo was salvaged from the wreck of a Chinese junk in the South China seas port of Batavia, now called Jakarta, by Michael Hatcher in 1983, and then again in 1985, recovering about 27000 pieces in total with pieces being sold in the Netherlands and London respectively.
The bowl is circular and hand potted on a low foot. The bowl is hand decorated in a dull slaty blue with a grey tinge, varying in colour at darkest being almost black to a pale slate grey. The hand painting instead of being fine and delicate resembles that of the early Ming periods, being bold and vigorous with “sketchty” figures and other motifs & symbols. The inside has two rings , one beneath the rim and the other at the base.
The base of the bowl has a hand written number/ letter code possibly from the time of classifying the salvaged pieces.

Condition:Usual ware and small restuck piece to rim with line.
