Sharing with you this lovely dish from the Late Ming period. Porcelain decorated in underglaze cobalt blue.
This dish is painted with a scene of a mounted scholar followed by his servant. They approach a multi-storied city gate and a city wall with crenellated battlements. A huge banner and standing on a battlement, flaps in the breeze. In the distance a mountain is visible and in front a fisherman boat. The border with geometric design and objects. The dish is heavily potted.
Dishes from the same period with similar scenes are well documented in the literature, some examples are added in the pictures.
