Antique Japanese Kutani Porcelain Bowl – Elephant Procession Scene – Edo/Meiji Period
A striking and finely decorated antique Japanese Kutani porcelain bowl, featuring an elaborate and vibrant figural scene to the interior.
The inside is richly hand-painted in traditional Kutani enamels with a dramatic procession scene centered around a white elephant carrying a dignitary beneath a canopy, surrounded by attendants in flowing robes. The background is densely decorated in iron-red with scrolling green foliage, clouds, and gilt detailing, creating a dynamic and highly decorative composition.
The exterior is finished in a deep, glossy iron-red glaze, beautifully contrasting with the intricate interior decoration. The base bears a green cartouche mark reading 九谷製之 (“Kutani made”)
