A very rare Ming Dynasty, Chenghua period porcelain Minyao ( peoplesware )bowl with an underglaze blue Chenghua Palace bowl motif. ( 1465 – 1487 ).The design of this bowl is based on ‘palace bowls’ with Chenghua reign marks, of which an example in the Ataka Collection is illustrated by T. Nakano, The Panoramic Views of Chinese Patterns, Tokyo, 1985, pl. 109, and another in Selected Ceramics from the Collection of Mr. & Mrs. J. M. Hu, Shanghai, 1989, p. 52, no. 19. Two sixteenth-century examples are illustrated by J. Ayers, Chinese Ceramics, The Koger Collection, London, 1985, p. 90, pl. 65, and in Oriental Ceramics, The World’s Great Collections, Museum Pusat, Jakarta, vol. 3, Tokyo, 1982, no. 175
