Presenting an exquisite early 17th century dish from Jingdezhen, crafted for the Japanese market. This stunning piece features the Ko Akae decoration of an underglaze blue landscape scen with mountains, water and figures. Added are enamel overglaze figures, birds and trees.
The base is mark with a 4 character mark:
Yin Sheng Jia Shi
Finely made for Yingsheng
A similar dish with same mark can be found in the Butler collection, see pictures.
As for Ko Akae decoration, it is a style of decoration that originated in the Ming Dynasty in China, and was popular in Japan during the Edo period. It typically features a combination of underglaze blue and enamel overglaze colors. It is highly prized by collectors for its intricate and beautiful designs.
