Condition Report: 1 or 2 firing bubbles to rim only. Size 138x30mm
A Chinese export famille rose ‘Cherry Pickers’ dish dating from the Qianlong period. The centre of the dish is boldly decorated with a scene of a man standing on a ladder throwing down fruit from a tree to a woman who is holding out her skirt to catch it. Another woman and a dog are seated next to a wicker basket full of fruit. There is a brown enamel chain link design inside the rim. The rim has a brown dressing. Diameter 20.8cm (8.2″)
This well-known design is thought to be taken from a print by Nicolas Ponce after a painting (‘La Cueilette des cerises’) by Pierre-Antoine Baudouin.
