A pair of Shunzhi or Kangxi Blanc de Chine Porcelain figures on horses.
Blanc de Chine Statues like these were made in the kilns of Dehua in Fujian province.
These are rare examples!
Both pieces have a hidden text on the base which can be seen with blacklight. It’s the postal code and house number of the place in Amsterdam where Merkelbach (or his later family) lived.
Provenance: From the collection of Clemens Merkelbach van Enkhuizen, A well known Dutch painter and artist from Amsterdam.
Merkelbach van Enkhuizen lived in one of the canal houses in Amsterdam and was an avid collection of Asian art.
