Up for auction this week is a beautifully decorated Chinese blue and white porcelain plate dating to circa 1730–1750, late Yongzheng to early Qianlong period, Qing dynasty.
The centre depicts three elegantly dressed ladies in a fenced garden among ornamental rocks and flowering plants. One holds a fan, while another carries a flowering sprig. Large blossoms arch above the figures, framing the scene.
The broad border is divided into eight panels containing flowering sprays against alternating grounds of fine crosshatching, scales and curling lines. A gently lobed rim follows the panelled composition.
The reverse is decorated with three floral sprays, with an unmarked glazed base enclosed by an unglazed foot ring.
