Jingdezhen delight.

Chinese porcelain dish made for the Japanese market, Tianqi or Chongzhen period probably, early 17th century.

The dish is decorated with different types of fish above waves in underglaze blue, among water plants. On the top of the plate there is a full moon. The backside is decorated with shifty drawn branches, typical of Kosometsuke wares. According to Feng Shui, a fish represents wealth and prosperity because the actual word in Chinese for fish, in Pinyin: yú, 魚, also translates to “abundance” 裕 Pinyin: yù.
