Condition Report: 1 or 2 firing bubbles to rim only. Size 138x30mm

A Chinese export famille rose ‘Cherry Pickers’ dish dating from the Qianlong period.  The centre of the dish is boldly decorated with a scene of a man standing on a ladder throwing down fruit from a tree to a woman who is holding out her skirt to catch it.  Another woman and a dog are seated next to a wicker basket full of fruit. There is a brown enamel chain link design inside the rim.  The rim has a brown dressing.  Diameter 20.8cm (8.2″)

This well-known design is thought to be taken from a print by Nicolas Ponce after a painting (‘La Cueilette des cerises’) by Pierre-Antoine Baudouin.

Date: late Qianlong c1780
