A very nice and beautiful Bowl. Marked at base.
The former owner thought it was chinese (check the sticker at the base) but it is a Japanese piece.
This is a bowl by “(the) Koransha”, an Arita porcelain company active from 1875 during the Meiji period, the name of which was retained by Fukagawa after he split from the Seiji Kaisha (Company) and “Koransha” continues as a porcelain company today, still under the directorship of the Fukagawa family.
They won international awards at major exhibitions in the late 19thC through to 1930 for their hand-painted porcelain such as this great piece. The Japanese orchid (the blue flower on the base, sometimes a red flower), was their signature and visually refers to the name ‘Koransha ‘: Scented Orchid Company’. More recently, their awards have been for technical advances. They also provide the Imperial household with various porcelains
