Yoshiiku was a disciple of Kuniyoshi and a disciple of Yoshitoshi. After Kuniyoshi's death, Yoshiiku became one of the leading ukiyo-e artists from the end of the Edo period to the early Meiji period, painting scenes such as the customs of prostitutes.
He became the founder of the ``Tokyo Nichi-Nichi Shimbun'' in 1895, and in 1888 he began to draw newspaper nishiki-e on the ``Tokyo Nichi-Nichi Shimbun'', becoming the pioneer of the nishiki-e newspaper trend. In 1898, he was involved in the launch of the ``Hiragana Illustrated Newspaper'' (later the ``Tokyo Illustrated Newspaper''), and also worked as an illustrator for this newspaper.
