Sharing with you this fantastic Chinese porcelain dish. Tianqi period. Kosometsuke dish. It is decorated with a hen and her chicks on a remarkably open white ground, a composition that beautifully emphasizes the elegance and simplicity of the design. The minimal decoration gives the scene a calm and refined appearance, typical of many Kosometsuke wares made for the Japanese market.
A closely comparable example is illustrated in Chinesische Porzellane des 17. Jahrhunderts für Japan: Sammlung Georg Weishaupt, Berlin by Herbert Butz and Kawahara Masahiko (Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst, Berlin, 1996).
