Sharing with you this very nice and unusual Chinese blue and white porcelain plate, Ming dynasty, Wanli period (1573–1620).
The plate has an moulded and scalloped form and is decorated in underglaze blue. The centre is surrounded by a finely painted circular band of stylised chrysanthemum flower-head design. The decoration is quite different from the more densely painted panelled Kraak dishes commonly encountered.
The reverse is decorated around the footrim with a continuous band of stylised ruyi-head motifs in underglaze blue. The moulded shape of the plate can also be clearly seen from the reverse.
