Sharing with you this unusual porcelain Dish, Arita Kilns. Superb decoration. Very early, 1630-1650.
Shoki-Imari dish with a fisherman scene that could come right of a Chinese Kosometsuke dish. Similar plates are pictured in the Shibata Collection part 2 item 7 – 10 & 17 -20. See pictures also.

This flat dish with everted rim and its thick rough foot-rim is typical of some of the earliest Japanese porcelain ever produced. The dish is thickly potted and heavy, typical of Japanese porcelain from this early period. The term Shoki-Imari is used to include the very first porcelain made in Japan, generally thought to be slightly before 1630, to the beginnings of the export market in the 1650s. The designs were strongly influenced by the Ming porcelain in Japanese taste that was being imported at the time but it was also influenced by Japanese pottery.

Storage box included.
