Condition Report: Vase 1 Perfect, Vase 2 with 2 chips to the base corners. Some gilt loss. Size 415mm high approx.
So happy to be able to share this amazing pair large vases with you guys. They seem to be identical (but in mirror) but there are some nice differences. For example one has a tiger and one has a dragon. But also the dancers on 1 vase perform to a person in rest and the other one it’s just the dancers.

The large baluster shaped Japanese Satsuma earthenware vases are almost in heart shape. Decorated in typical enamels and gilt, with Kannon seated on rockwork surrounded by acolytes, the reverse with dancers performing. The sides with flowerheads upon a wave-like pattern, the foot and neck with bands of stylised motifs
Meiji period, late 19th century, h. 41.5 cm

Origin of the left vase:
‘Sotheby’s Japanese and Korean works of Art, London November 9, 2004’ lot 197
