Condition Report: Overall Condition Perfect. Size 360x54mm DXH

Very nice large Fukagawa plate depicting a soft light blue Mount Fuji with a large tsunami wave in front in relief. Of course inspired by the famous Hokusai print. On the reverse side decorations of waves.

With mark ‘Fukagawa sei’ 深川製 beneath ‘Fuji Peaks’.
In very nice original condition.

The mountain with stream is the mark of the Fukagawa Seiji company. Eizaemon Fukagawa started the Fukagawa company in 1875 (Koransha = Scented Orchid Company) and after his death in 1889, his oldest son, Yotaro succeeded the company. In 1894 his 2nd son Chuji Fukagawa started the Fukagawa Porcelain Company (Seiji) with this mountain and stream mark. Similar dishes are pictured in: Japanese Porcelain, 1800-1950 (Schiffer Book for Collectors) Hardcover – Illustrated, October 8, 1999
