An unusual Chinese porcelain tea caddy, dating to circa 1730–1750, decorated in finely painted encre de Chine with a continuous Chinese river landscape. The scene depicts mountainous rock formations, pavilions and houses enclosed by walls, figures, trees and a fisherman in a small boat.
The shoulder is finished with a decorative diaper-and-flower border, while the caddy stands on a particularly attractive openwork foot formed as scrolling waves or clouds. Made during the early Qianlong period for the European export market.
The original cover is missing.
