Reference from Howard Armorial porcelain:

V14 HUTTON
The arms are of Hutton, Or a lion rampant azure between three arrows points
downwards two and one, proper headed and feathered argent, on a chief gules
as many bezants; with the crest, A serpent catching at the finger of a man’s
hand issuing from a cloud all proper. The motto ‘Si Deus quis contra’.
These arms were granted in 1692 to Dr. John Hutton in Scotland (and are
recorded in Sir James Balfour Paul’s Ordinary for that year, no. 4072), but
there is no record of his family published in the 18th Century.
It is conceivable (although not likely) that this service could have been
made for one of two Thomas Huttons in Canton about 1780 – Dr. Thomas
Hutton, who arrived at the British Factory in 1772, or Thomas Hutton, who
after trading as a private merchant was ordered by the Company to leave in
1778 (although given three years in which to do so). In 1779 and ’80, with
Mr. Gordon, he was the principal creditor of the Chinese merchants, being
owed the enormous sum of one and three quarter million dollars.
