Chinese blue and white European market plate, Kangxi (1662-1722), decorated in the centre with a monogram above a laurel wreath and a love knot above, the border with a garland of fruiting passion flower, the reverse with two floral sprays to the rim and a central artemisia leaf within concentric circles
Dimensions:
Diameter: 27.1cm. (10 11/16in.)
Whilst it is not known who commissioned this pattern, Jochem Kroes suggests that the plate may have been ordered by a married female due to the predominance of female imagery. For further information see Kroes, Jochem, ‘Chinese Armorial Porcelain for the Dutch Market’, p. 106, pl. 3
