High quality Chinese export porcelain, chine de commande.

Qianlong, c. 1740-1750

Of octagonal form; decorated in famille verte and famille rose enamels, bianco-sopra-bianco, and gold, with honeycomb-diaper panels and alternating floral sprays on the rim, scalepattern border framed in the well by narrow bands and scrollwork, central scene of two hounds in pursuit of a spotted stag near a gnarled tree.

Plate painted entirely in famille verte enamels with scrolls and petals on the rim and central scenes of spotted deer, gamboling horses, or birds amongst gnarled trees date to the first quarter of the eighteenth century. The decoration on the plate shown here employs both famille verte and famille rose enamels. The term rose-verte is occasionally used to designate decorations that incorporate colors from both palettes, and wares painted in this manner generally date from c. 1730 to c. 1760.
