Description
Up for auction this week is a finely decorated Chinese blue and white porcelain dish with an unusual raised centre, dating to the Kangxi period of the Qing dynasty.
The central medallion depicts figures gathered around a table in a pavilion interior. Surrounding this scene are flowering plants with long, sweeping leaves, arranged around the raised centre.
The broad rim is painted with a continuous scene of figures among trees, rocks and buildings. A brown-dressed edge frames the composition. The reverse is richly decorated with large flowers, scrolling foliage and smaller floral sprays, while the glazed base is unmarked.
